Independent foundation

The independent foundation approach is appropriate for people who would like to award a large amount of capital to pursue specific philanthropic goals with public awareness.

To achieve their goals, founders establish an independent foundation with its own board of trustees. After the founder’s death, an independent foundation of this kind can continue to hold assets such as art, paintings, etc. that have accumulated over decades (legacy of the founder’s life’s work).

The Rütli-Foundation uses its know-how to provide founders with comprehensive advice and can, if desired, take over the administrative tasks associated with running the foundation.

For cost reasons, the independent foundation approach only makes sense for capital contributions upwards of CHF 10 million.

Advantages:
  • Permanent inclusion of the founder’s own name in the name of the foundation. This serves to improve public perception as well as the founder’s image.
  • Playing an active role on a board of trustees can be meaningful and life-enriching.
  • Selection of your own board of trustees. This is particularly important if specialist know-how is required or appears sensible for fulfilling the foundation’s purpose.
  • Legacy of the founder’s life’s work.
